How AI Grammatic handles your text

What happens to the words you rewrite, what we keep and what we don’t, in plain language. The legal version is the privacy policy.

Updated October 24, 2026

The short version

  • We don’t keep the text you rewrite, or the rewrite.
  • On Free and Premium, your text passes through our server on its way to the AI provider. On Pro it goes straight from your Mac to your own AI account.
  • We keep counts (how many rewrites and words per day), your license details if you buy a plan, and on Free your IP address for up to 30 days to enforce the daily limit.
  • We don’t sell data, and there are no ads.

Where your text goes

Free and Premium

When you press the shortcut, the app sends the selected text and your settings (target language, tone, style, your writing instructions) to our server over HTTPS. The server adds the instructions for the AI, sends everything to the AI provider you picked (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or DeepSeek) and returns the rewrite to your Mac. The text and the rewrite exist only in memory while the request runs; we don’t write them to a database or to logs.

Pro

Your text goes from your Mac directly to the AI provider, using your own API key. It never reaches our servers. The app does fetch the current rewriting instructions from our server, but that request contains only your settings, never your text.

What we keep

  • A device ID: a random identifier for your Mac, so the daily limit counts per device.
  • Daily usage: for each device and day, the number of rewrites, words and AI tokens. No text.
  • Your IP address (Free plan only): a per-day request count, so one person can’t get around the free limit with new device IDs. We delete these after 30 days.
  • License details (paid plans): your email, license key, plan, renewal date and Stripe customer and subscription IDs.
  • Website analytics: the site uses Google Analytics to see which pages people visit. The app itself has no analytics.

What stays on your Mac

Your settings, shortcuts, writing instructions and, on Pro, your API keys are stored locally on your Mac. The app also briefly uses the clipboard to copy the selected text and paste the rewrite; ⌘Z undoes the paste.

Payments

Stripe processes payments. We never see or store your card details; we receive your email and the status of your subscription.
